Use the picture cards as prompts to interpret the types weather through movement.  Show a card and explain what the weather might sound or look like so the children can listen and follow along. Act out with movements:
  • Rain falling down
  • Thunder pounding
  • Tornado spinning
  • Snow quietly falling down
  • Leaves rustling in the wind
  • Ice covered trees bending
  • Lightening flashing
  • Rain pounding on the roof
  • Fluffy clouds drifting
  • Wind gently blowing
  • Rainbow spreading over the sky
  • Sun coming out & shining  - always a nice way to end!
If you do music & movement activities often, likely you can come up with movements to mimic the weather movement & sounds. Here’s some ideas to get you started:
  • Rain: move arms/hands up & down like the rain falling while hopping from foot to foot.
  • Thunder pounding: jump and land hard/stomp your feet
  • Tornado spinning: spin in circles
…. and so on… really, it doesn’t matter how you move, but THAT you move!
I thought this one was really fun! Lots more music & movement ideas and resources to come!Stacy
