Cookie Dec

There's some cookie decorating going on at my house tonight. I've done enough baking in the last few weeks that I let the rest of them at it, even my BIL Jon is helping. : ) They're making a little bit of everything - hammers, rubber duckies, snowmen, motorcycles, moons, etc.

Carousel Consignments

Today we went "junk shopping" at Carousel Consignments downtown. It's a fun place full of collectibles, antiques, stuff/junk. I bought a nice coffee table there a few years ago & today I was lucky to find a nice desk. I didn't *need* it but I like the look and the extra storage in it so I swapped out my "new" one for this old one. (I kept the hutch from the other desk & it works fine!) Damon's learning not to look at me funny when I find old furniture because he usually likes it once it's in the house! I also found an amber vase for the living room. I wanted a few accessories to put up on my ledge for a little more interest. The finials I picked up at Hobby Lobby & all three look nice together up there.

Tiling Project

Yesterday Jon & Damon worked on tiling the master bathroom. It's looking good! They're almost done.

Glaze

The weekend I went with Sharon to Cedarburg, we went to Glaze & painted pottery. I chose this tray & wasn't sure how to paint it so I went simple with stripes. It turned out nice, I like it! I'd love to go again sometime.

Little Indians

My group today with their headbands & noodle necklaces.

I made the teepee cupcakes

I used my angel food pan with crunched up tin foil holding up the cones. No tipping!

Very easy & cute!

Thanksgiving Preparations

We're having company for Thanksgiving Day & the weekend so lots to do to get ready. Damon's Mom & Dad, sister/BIL, & an Aunt & Uncle are coming. I made a list so I'm not overwhelmed & can prioritize. How come everytime I look at the list I get overwhelmed? Sometimes it's easier for me to just look around & see what needs to be done and do it rather think about & list everything that would be ideal. Make sense? I really do not have time for this, but I'd like to make these for tomorrow afternoon's snack for the kids. Teepee Cupcakes. I better add to my shopping list. That's what's on the agenda tonight for me: grocery shopping. I actually don't have that much to buy since the others are bringing a lot of it.
I am *thrilled* with this pie crust recipe. The tips are very helpful. I found it last night & made it this morning. The kids & I made a pecan pie (ok, really the nuts were walnuts but they don't know the difference & it's all I had!) this morning & the crust rolled out so nice & it was all so simple. We were going to do individual pies but I decided that was going to be a pain so they were fine with making one big one. The crust is beautiful and tastes great. I have another crust in the fridge ready to roll out & make an apple pie with tomorrow. (Mine does not contain vodka.)

I'm working on 5 batches of bread. 5 loaves & the rest rolls. Some are part wheat. Looks like it's all turning out nice so we'll have lots of fresh bread for the holiday. I hope it's ok I made the rolls a couple days early but it was either that or buy em. I really won't have enough time to do it all on Wednesday. Really.

There's more in the oven....

We bought a new mattress & Damon brought it home last night but it's very firm. Too firm. It's a beautiful handmade bed - a sample so one of a kind- but it's not what we want. Our other one is only 1 yr old but it's very plush, too plush if you can believe it. Good thing Damon knows people at Simmons (since he used to work there) so he's going to exchange it in the morning. Hope we can get a happy medium! (These beds available at employee discounts are get-what-you-get. You really don't get to choose one, just firm/plush, pillowtop/no pillowtop, etc. so that's why we're in the situation. Damon was able to use an ex-coworkers discount-they get 3/yr. so he allowed us to use one of his-with a little extra incentive.)

I ordered these boots from Famous Footwear on Saturday & they just arrived. Quick! Famous Footwear is famous for never having my size but they do ship from the warehouse with no additional charge. Of course they're too big. What a pain. I do like the boots though. I'd like a cute fluffy suede pair or something but remember I actually have to outside in the snow everyday with the kids! I thought these were nice looking & practical. Time to get back at the list!

Whoohooo!!

Grma H left a comment!!! http://damonandstacy.blogspot.com/2008/11/paper-scraps.html That's big! LOL

Silhouette

Here's another little project I made, a silhouette of Brett. It looks like him & I think I like it...Not sure I'm a big fan of silhouettes? For now it's found a spot on the bookshelf.
**I like this frame better. The stuff I have stashed...

Change of Season

Today's Art

We made THANKS with split peas, pinto beans, navy beans & popcorn seeds. I figured the little ones wouldn't be able to sit long enought to fill in all the letters so we used gold glitter when they were done glueing. Turned out so pretty!

All Bundled Up

Just a quick pic before school this morning. He should be plenty warm & keep dry. There's not much I can do about him being hungry though. I made him an egg & toast and he sat there for 1/2 hour not eating. Too big of a weekend & he's tired I'm afraid. Not eating is a sure sign....

Weekend Project #4

I'm on a roll! Don't ask me why I spent all that time on this little thing, but it was fun and it turned out fairly well. Well enough for me to consider it a success. It's hard to tell in the pictures, but it's Brett's hand print made into a soft turkey. Now I'll always have his 6 year old hand. ☺ It was very difficult to sew around the fingers but thankfully this project is very forgiving since you can cover up a lot when hot glueing the feathers on. Here's the tutorial.
Here he is on my chenille throw. Looks like "turkey in the snow".
